Maternal and newborn

Helping strengthen maternal and newborn care

Every year, 40 million women give birth without a skilled birth attendant. Well-trained healthcare personnel can make the difference between life and death. Yet many providers lack access to the training tools they need to practice critical hands-on skills and simulation-based training.

How it works

Buy One, Gift One (BOGO) is a joint program by Laerdal Medical and Laerdal Global Health. It ensures that every purchase of a maternal simulator for use in a high-income country creates training opportunities in a high mortality country.

A woman sitting with a MamaNatalie maternal simulator, while a healthcare worker in gloves simulates the delivery reception, and another woman stands observing the hands-on childbirth simulation training session.

For every maternal simulator purchased through Laerdal Medical, a MamaBirthie CS or MamaNatalie simulator is donated to a high-impact partner program in a low-income country. This donation also includes Helping Mothers and Babies Survive educational materials. These training tools help healthcare teams build confidence, strengthen teamwork, and improve the quality of maternal and newborn care.

Educational materials

Step-by-step learning resources

To support healthcare professionals, we provide educational materials and posters to guide them safely through emergency situations.

Through the BOGO program, Laerdal Medical customers make these donations possible, while Laerdal Global Health strategically allocates the simulators and educational resources to partner programs where they can have the greatest impact.

Stories of impact

How simulation-based training is strengthening midwifery education in Indonesia

Through Laerdal's Buy One, Gift One program together with ICM, Universitas Aisyah Pringsewu in Indonesia integrated ten MamaNatalie simulators into their classrooms. By introducing realistic anatomy and hands-on practice, they have closed the gap between classroom theory and real-world clinical readiness for over 150 trainees.
