Helping Mothers Survive

Helping Mothers Survive is an innovative training program developed by Jhpiego, a not-for-profit affiliate of John Hopkins University, in collaboration with Laerdal Global Health. The first module – Bleeding After Birth - gives health workers skills in prevention, detection, and management of postpartum hemorrhage, the leading cause of maternal death.

The training program...

Activates students using highly affordable graphic educational materials and hands-on simulation training with MamaNatalie birthing simulators.

Is consistent with the Helping Babies Breathe program which facilitates respectful care of both mother and baby with the instructor acting the mother.

Focuses on the most life threatening scenarios, but also strengthens training in routine patient care during and after delivery.

Promotes work site refresher training with practical, affordable tools that can be left in the institution which makes it simpler to learn and remember.

The Helping Mothers Survive training program is supported by the MamaNatalie Buy One Gift One campaign: For each MamaNatalie birthing simulator purchased through Laerdal Medical for use in high-income countries, an additional MamaNatalie is being donated.

Helping Mothers Survive has been reviewed and endorsed by the global professional organizations for midwives (ICM), gynecologists and obstetricians (FIGO), pediatricians (AAP), nurses (ICM), and UNFPA.
