A Happy Birthday for the Norwegian Prime Minister
February 24th, 2015
Prime Minister Erna Solberg paid a one hour visit to Laerdal today, on her 54th birthday.
That presented a perfect Segway to discussing the 10,000 Happy Birthdays project in Malawi, a country the prime mister recently visited in her capacity as co-chair of the UN Millennium Development Goals Advocacy Commission. The Norwegian government has taken a particularly active role relating to MDGs no 4 and 5, to reduce maternal, child and newborn deaths.
The prime minister was also visiting SAFER simulation center and the assembly line for the SimMan 3G. She took particular interest in our 2020 goal to help save 500,000 more lives, and the opportunity for further collaboration also with the norwegian health authorities. Among topics discussed were the opportunity to help reduce death toll from prehospital cardiac arrest with strengthening the first two links in the chain of survival, and to improve patient safety through simulation based training. The minister was also interviewed by present media representatives, and praised Laerdal’s ability to innovate and strengthen its market leading position with a base in high cost Stavanger.
